Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) was established on the 1st of January 1996 in line with the Vision and Mission of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). This faculty offers an avenue for the advancement of contemporary business and economics knowledge by nurturing and producing outstanding graduates with contemporary education curriculum in the field of business and economics together with high interpersonal skills. This also conducts research as well as engaging with industry and community, all of which would ultimately benefit the students.

FEB started with only two undergraduate programmes: Industrial Organization and International Economics. Currently, there are seven undergraduate programmes consist of International Economics, Service Economics, Business Economics, Finance, Corporate Management, Marketing and Accounting. FEB has four postgraduate programmes: Corporate Master of Business Administration (CMBA) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA); Masters of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by research.

Along the years, FEB has achieved great accomplishments in teaching and research, industry and community engagement as well as students’ achievement. These accomplishments are due to our committed academic staff and students, supported by dedicated administrative staff, working persistently to accomplish those goals. FEB has gained reputable global recognition in teaching and research. Our Accounting programme has obtained various international certification such as from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Chartered Accountant Scotland (ICAS), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW), CPA Australia (Certified Practising Accountant) and Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). In 2020, FEB has reached a new milestone where it is ranked 501 World University Rankings 2020 for Business and Economics under Time Higher Education (THE) ranking

 

To sustain and advance our research,  FEB has  two academic journals. The first is the IJBS, which better known by its full name: International Journal of Business and Society, which is indexed by SCOPUS. Furthermore, IJBS had won the CREAM Award for two consecutive years, 2017 and 2018 respectively. The second journal is URAF (UNIMAS Review of Accounting and Finance), which is created to cater our growing research in Finance and Accounting.

FEB actively engages with stakeholders domestically and internationally with collaborations via Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement with various institutions, with renowned business executives via CEO@Faculty programme and by other means.

The faculty does not forget that students are its most important stakeholder, and they have to be encouraged to be engaged with each other, as well with the outside of the university. Student engagement is actively promoted through various student bodies. These are the Student Association of Faculty of Economics and Business (PERFEP) and associations related to each programme such as Society of UNIMAS Accounting Society (UNIMAC), Society of Marketing Talent (SMART), Society of Finance (FIN-ACE), Society of Professional Development in Economics (SPADE); Society of Corporate Management (SICMA) and Postgraduate Association Faculty of Economics & Business (PAFEB). As well as promoting student engagement, these student organizations would enable students to develop their characters, soft skills and entrepreneurial skills that enable them face a challenging future.

In view of the continuing shifts in the business environment, we require great synergy between FEB and the stakeholders in complementing each other with the aim of producing high quality graduates for the development of the nation.
