Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The aim of the research programme is to produce graduates in Doctor of Philosophy in line with the UNIMAS desire to expand and move far beyond the academic and research excellence. In order to satisfy this aim, Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) have been formulated based on the visions and missions of UNIMAS.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

(Economics)

The programme shall produce graduates who are:

PEO1: Contribute to the advancement of body of knowledge in business, economics,  and finance and related fields.

PEO2: Foster innovation of new ideas, methods and skills in the field of business, economics, and finance by the engagement in life-long learning.

PEO3: Display leadership via team working and communication skills that allow professionals to become visionary and inspirational leader.

PEO4: Uphold the professionalism, ethics and responsibility in the field of their profession to serve the community.

PEO3: Display leadership via team working and communication skills that allow professionals to become visionary and inspirational leader.

PEO4: Uphold the professionalism, ethics and responsibility in the field of their profession to serve the community.

Duration of the Programme

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is a research degree by thesis under the supervision of an experienced member of academic staff or a supervisory panel. A panel is made up of graduate staff and experts from either within or outside the University. The minimum duration of studies is:
• Full Time: 3 - 6 years
• Part Time: 4 - 8 years

At the end of the programme, graduates must be able to:

PLO1: Synthesise knowledge and contribute to original research that broadens the frontier of knowledge in the business, economics and finance field.

PLO2: Adapt practical skills leading to innovative ideas in the business, economics and finance field.

PLO3: Be competent in solving problems using scientific skills based on sound facts and ideas.

PLO4: Incorporate the values of ethics and professionalism including contemporary issues and environmental awareness.

PLO5: Display leadership qualities through communications and working effectively with peers and stakeholders.

PLO6: Adopt recent relevant knowledge and cutting-edge technologies through life-long learning process. Provide advice to society on various issues based on recent knowledge and technologies

Upon graduating from this program, the students are able to:

PLO5: Communicate effectively the knowledge, skills, ideas and research findings to diversity of stakeholders.

PLO6: Apply a variety of appropriate digital techniques and media in research work.

PLO7: Appraise problems in business and administration field deeply by using scientific and critical thinking skills.

PLO8: Display leadership qualities through working and communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.

PLO9: Integrate information in business and administration field for lifelong learning.

PLO10: Conduct research professionally and promote entrepreneurial activity from research outcome.

PLO11: Develop research independently and comply to legal, ethical and professional codes of practice.

Entry Requirements (as approved by Senate Nos. 02/2014 -13)

Entry Requirements (as approved by Senate Nos. 02/2014 -13) The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is a research degree by thesis under the supervision of an experienced member of academic staff or a supervisory panel. A panel is made up of graduate staff and experts from either within or outside the University. The minimum duration of studies is 3 - 6 years fulltime and 4 - 8 years part-time. The academic progress of a research student is evaluated twice a year through the progress reports. Final assessment is through thesis and a viva-voce examination. A student who has satisfied the Examination Committee for Postgraduate Studies in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Eligibility

(a)
A Master Degree with good pass from an approved university in an area relevant to the candidate's proposed area ofresearch.
  •  Other equivalent qualifications approved by the Senate
  •  For international students, a minimum IELTS Score of 5.0 or its equivalent(e.g TOEFL-525; TOEFL Computer Test-196;TOEFL Internet Test69-70 or MUET Band 3) is required.
(b)
Direct Entry from Bachelor Degree Level to PhD by Research Programme A Bachelor’s Degree with minimum CGPA of 3.67 or equivalent, as accepted by Senate subject to rigorous internal assessment
  •  Other equivalent qualifications approved by the Senate

Duration of Study

For a PhD, the normal duration is (3 - 6) years full-time and (4 - 8) years part-time
